Dare I Attempt This Again?

I'm wondering if anything has changed regarding my ability to blog from my iPhone. I stopped blogging mainly because the photos always got dumped to the end of the post.
Anyways, I've done more knitting than quilting and I must say I am just slightly addicted to sock knitting. Here are some photos of my recently completed projects.

These are all Christmas gifts...I have a pair waiting to have ends woven in, a pair  nearly ready to turn the heels & a third just cast on today. (I needed to go to my happy place in the chaos of mall shopping) leaving just a single pair of mandatory Christmas socks to be finished.

Anyone else in the midst of a sock knitting frenzy?

Cheers,

Making Progress

I'm making progress on my Honey Cowl. I've set aside the socks for now. For no reason other than the Honey Cowl is somewhat mindless & I need that right now. I have a simple system for keeping track of my rows and this project travels better than the socks.

On another note, apparently my phone decided to update multiple previous posts. I don't know how I managed to do this, but I will try to be a little more vigilant in making sure my posts actually upload when I want them to.

Hope it's been a productive day for you as well.

Blue Bag Finish

I've been making these small bags for a while. I made several for gifts a couple of years ago. This one has been sitting around for a really long time.

Tonight I put the final stitches in the lining. I think it will be a perfect bag for my next knitting project... a cotton shrug made from Ellyn Cooper's hand dyed yarn in "Almond Blush".

I got the yarn and the pattern at Knitting Addiction while we were on Spring Break at the Outer Banks.

Jeanne from Knitting Addiction suggested that I knit both skeins at the same time, alternating rows. It will be a new technique for me. Wish me luck?

Hope you finished something fun this weekend!

Now THAT is a beautiful snow!

I started a new job last week.
It's been working out nicely.
Best thing is...
When school is cancelled I don't have to go in!
And guess what!
With all this snow...there is no school today.
That means some free time for me to spend a little time with my new (to me) Kenmore.
Yea!
So...how did the rest of you hold up in the midst of this recent snow?
I know it's traveled quite a ways to get to the East Coast.
And it has visited most of you.

Time For...

Toe decreases!

On the Needles 4/20/13

I currently have 3 knitting projects in progress.

1. Honey Cowl
For this project, I'm using the free pattern from Ravelry.com, size 10 1/2 circular needles and a cotton blend, mill end yarn in a neutral grey color.

2. Knee Socks
This project is from Ann Budd's book Getting Started Knitting Socks. I cast on using size 3 dpns and a gorgeous blue-green sock yarn that i bought at Knitting Addiction in the Outer Banks. The color is Rose College and is one of Ellyn Cooper's hand dyed yarns. It's 65% superwash merino wool and 35% bamboo labeled as Zohar's Socks.

3. John's Scarf
I'm not using a pattern for this, just knitting front & back. It's old yarn that had lost its label so I have no idea what it is. I cast on to size 10 needles. It's not getting much attention now that spring is here.

As soon as I can get "real Internet" I'm going to link up with "What's on Your Needles".

I would love to hear about your favorite knitting projects!

On Our Way to the Beach...

First of all, let me apologize to any of you that automatically get my newest blog posts.  I am going to be doing some experimentation over the next couple of days and you might be getting lots of updates.

I really want to get back into the habit of blogging & I am trying several new things both from my computer as well as from my phone.

These updates will include lots of photos, so stick around if you enjoy that, otherwise, you can just pass on by...I won't mind...I promise you.

Our first stop on our way to the Outer Banks was Berkeley Springs.

This is a lovely area with some great historical connections.  Last year when we stopped, we learned that George Washington often frequented the hot springs of this little town.

I did manage to take a rather obscure picture of Berkeley Castle, but you will have better luck taking a peek at the photos from the Berkeley Castle Website.

Just across the street from the spas was a sweet little antique shop.  These are the only 2 photos that I took because "My Boys" decided to come looking for us.  And, I'm not really all that comfortable with my bulls...I mean boys... in a "china shop".

I do wish that I had taken a picture of the "mounted" critters that were available in one section.  They had bats, yes, the little fuzzy mice with wings, laid out on poster board and wrapped in Saran Wrap.  Really, they did.  And they were for sale.

My Youngest Daughter...apparently embarrassed by the "Hooter Hoister"
Hope you get lots done today.  I feel like I've made progress just by getting this post up. ; )

Is there a Google+ for Dummies?

I really hate trying to live my internet life on my phone!

I've had a chance to use the internet & was going to show you some of the gorgeous sunrises & sunsets that we were able to see over Spring Break, but alas, I can't seem to get them off of my iPhone and onto the computer.

And I've already determined that it is beyond my comprehension to post to blogger from my phone.

Perhaps I need to change my blogging platform and go to wordpress or something else...

Did You Know...

That snow can make noise?

I don't like it. It sounds like rain...only colder.

And it's supposed to be spring.

Rainy Saturday

After working a full week (and no. I'm not used to it yet.) I finally get a chance to knit.

I finished another "tit bit" for Kelly this morning...now she has 2! *grin*

I'm determined to get my ocean socks finished before we leave at the end of the month.

I've got laundry in the washer and 2 movies. I'm good to go.

Accomplishments of the Day

I managed to tame a few of my messier messes.

And get started on a new knitting project.

This is the Triangular Shawl designed by Jeanne Schrader of Knitting Addiction in the Outer Banks.

Can't wait to see her and her new shop in April!

Pre-Play

Before I can play with ANY of my fun projects I need to do a little neglected cleaning. Since I started working I have not maintained my sanctuary. So, Brave is in the DVD player and here are my problem areas...

Look What I Found!!

A quick trip to Goodwill...and SCORE!

It's a "Sears Kenmore".
Model 1410.
Made in Japan.
Heavy as all get-out.

So far it sounds good, runs smooth, sews a straight stitch...but boy, does she smell bad.

I will be taking her in for a little spa treatment, unless I'm able to get to the underside. Right now I can't get her lifted out. It might be that I just need another pair of hands.

I was a little nervous about paying $30 but after a few quick stitches I can honestly say that I'm happy I did.

Today's Priorities

It's another yucky, dreary day in West Virginia.
Overcast & grey.
Too cold and wet to go outside.
Too hard to get motivated.

While drinking my coffee I figured I'd better get a list going of the things that need some attention.
Now, I'm not talking about laundry and dishes and making beds.
Those things can wait...as long as I manage to get a shower before I have to pick the kids up from school.

Here are some of the "important" things that need to be worked on:

I did manage to finish the quilting on Colleen's Quilt and I even got the binding put on.  Now the binding needs basted and hand stitched.  Her birthday is on the 25th and I'd like to get it in the mail to arrive on time.  She doesn't live far, but she has had a rough year and you know as well as I do that its just a lot of fun to get a box in the mail...especially one that isn't expected!

Speaking of birthdays & boxes in the mail, Did you sign up for my (and my blog's) Birthday Giveaway?  Well, hop on over and leave me a quick comment!

I have been trying to get that Little Blue Bag finished for quite some time.  It is still just waiting to have the final seam slip stitched closed and it will be ready to go.  I think I keep putting this one off because I don't like the looks of my hand stitching.  It always seems to end up as a whip stitch and looks really ugly.  I'd love some suggestions!

Then there is my knitting.  Thing 2 wants a scarf and its taking FOREVER!  Its just a basic knit stitch, but its really boring and it takes forever to even get an inch done.  Oh, well, Just Keep Stitching, right?!

I have the first sock ready to turn the heal and the second one is catching up.  I'm trying to make them as close to the same size as possible.  My last pair was a round or two off and one looks shorter than the other when Morgan puts them on.  I keep telling her that the socks are perfect...I made them, how could they not be?...and its her leg that is the problem.  Yeah, she's not going for it.

The little mug rug is probably going into the Birthday Giveaway goodie box.  It's a little bit of who I am and what I love.  The color red, Civil War reproduction fabric, Jacob's Ladder (my oldest son is Jacob & this was the first block I attempted on my own).  Anyway, there will be a few other goodies included as well, but this is a start.

Since I've managed to get in a little computer internet time, I'm going to go poke around and see who I can link up with today.  I'll come back and let you know where I end up!

Hope you have a good one...and that the sun is shining on you!

~Kristy

Oh, I forgot the most important project...Thing 1 has had a little problem with his snake's stuffing coming out.  It's been hibernating in my room for over a week now and I think it's about time he moved back in with my Little Guy!

I've been having some really weird dreams since the snake arrived...

Birthday Giveaway!!

Over  the past couple of years, I have figured out that I am a "Gifter".  I love to give things to other people.  It doesn't have to be something fancy.  It doesn't have to be for any particular reason.  If I see something and it makes me think of a particular person, I have to give it to them...sometimes its just a picture of the item since I can't just throw money down at the drop of a hat.

That being said, I'm doing a give away to celebrate my birthday later this month & my blogs first birthday that slipped by in January while we were buried deep in the winter drama of post holiday bills, broken down cars & the inevitable strep throat and flu season.

So, I've decided to send a mid-winter pick-me-up to a special person.

Here are some bits and pieces that I've been playing with...

When I think of February, I think of Valentine's Day...Black History Month... President's Day...and of course, MY BIRTHDAY!

Just leave me a comment on this post answering a few short questions:
1.  Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate?
2.  White, Milk or Dark Chocolate?
3.  Design Lines or Mix & Match?
4.  Historical or Whimsical?
(You can also tell me what you think of when February rolls around.)

I will be putting the names in a hat & letting Thing 1 and Thing 2 choose a winner.

Good Luck!
Pass the word along...There is lots of time...We'll pick a winner on February 26th (My Birthday) and post it on the 27th.

Hugs & Best Wishes!

February Check In

January was not so kind financially, automotively & general health-wise.

BUT...being forced to stay home I did manage to get some things accomplished.

I did a little free motion on my machine & broke it. Still not crazy about the idea of doing my own quilting but realizing that if I want projects to land in the "Finished" pile I'm going to have to do it myself.

I finished the Pink Sugar socks.

I dissected several shirts & jeans.

I finished my Funky Monkey mug rug.

February is starting off with the following projects:

1. I've started another Tit Bit knitted breast for a friend with breast cancer. (All you knitters out there... Check it out! What an amazing idea & my friend says they are perfect! Better than any other prosthetic she has tried!)

2. John's scarf is on the needles. He wanted a small fairly tight knit so I have to do at least 10 rows a day if I'm going to get it finished before summer rolls around.

3. I started my Ocean socks earlier this week. Loving this yarn. It's the Loops & Thread sock yarn from Michael's.

4. Last night I finished the binding on Kelly's quilt. She & I have swapped favors. Her quilting for my binding. It's been a great deal for me. Anyway, she just about has my t shirt quilt done so I figured we could make an even swap if I got busy on her binding.

5. I have Cinnamon & Nutmeg sitting on my desk. I still have to cut a few pieces & it will be ready to start assembling rows. This one is a little more complicated with bias cuts but I really want to get it going.

6. Morgan & I have counted and sorted her flannel quilt pieces and need to cut a few (30) more square sets and ALL of the batting squares.

Hopefully the pics I've added aren't in reverse order... But I'm sure it will be easy enough to figure out.

Oh! And I'm planning a give away for my birthday. My blogging birthday slipped away in the chaos of January but I'm prepared to make it up on February 27. Not sure what I'm going to come up with just yet, but I have a few things in mind. Look for my "Official Birthday Giveaway" post coming up this weekend.

Hope you are all staying warm & cozy!

Hugs!

2. Count 'em. 2 Finishes!

Yesterday I finished hand sewing the binding on the little "Funky Monkey" mug rug.

And last night I finished knitting my third (full size) pair of socks. The pattern is from Knitting Addiction's Volume 1: Yarn Junkies' Favorites a great collection of patterns that I picked up this past June while on vacation in the Outer Banks.

We're expecting lots of snow this afternoon so I'm off to get some food essentials and stock up on milk and toilet paper.

Another day off with the munchkins & hopefully another finish later today.

Snow Day

It hardly seems like enough snow for West Virginia to call a snow day, but they did. I won't complain. It gave me the chance to go back to bed and snuggle with my munchkins.

I haven't accomplished much since my last post. Even my socks have been neglected. We found out earlier this week that my 7 year old nephew has diabetes. What a major adjustment for everyone. It has been difficult to encourage "Mom" as she struggles to take in an overwhelming amount of information.

It does remind me of how blessed we are to only be dealing with broken down vehicles and not life altering health issues.

I will try to finish the binding on a little sock monkey mug rug that he can put on his tray. He is such a trooper.

Hope you are having a day full of peace and appreciating the fullness of your own life.

Hugs!

Crabby

Just finished my crabby apron.

The fabric is "Fisherman's Catch" by Dan Morris for Robert Kaufman with "Sweet Liberty" stars by Pat Sloan for P&B Textiles.

Ugh!

3 sewing machines in this house and not a single one is working!

I give up.

I have taken to my bed with my "Pink Sugar" socks to knit and Season 1 of Castle.

Kids will have breakfast for dinner since they can fix that for themselves.

What do you do on days like this? Come on. Admit it. You know you have them. I know I'm not the only one.

Lost!

I texted an update to blogger over the weekend. It was a lengthy test post & it seems to be lost in cyber-space. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to keep up with my blogging (including pictures) from my iPhone.

So far, it ain't been easy.

If you are interested in my January purchase update, pop on over to Flickr and check out my pics.

Okay. Here's a new dilemma...how to post a link...you might need to copy & paste this one. I put everyone to work...no free rides with this mom!

Guess what! You're going to have to hunt for it. Here's your clue: I'm registered as Kristy's In Stitches on Flickr.

Let me know when you find me!

I broke my machine last night so it's all about my little wooden needles for now. Look out socks...here I come!

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Uh-Oh!

I dug through my stash (it's not very big so it didn't take long) to find the fabric for my SIL. I found all three fabrics and 2 more.

Notice the green on top. It's less than 3 inches wide...SEW not going to make a border like I wanted.

I did find 2 other reds that might work. I'll have to play with my left over blocks and make a small table runner to match.

Ok. I'm off to my knittin' & stitchin'!

It's Officially THE FLU!

Yep, we've got it!

It's been a crazy day, but so sweet to watch Thing 1 taking care of Thing 2.  Last night Thing 1 was feeding Thing 2 Ruffles & sips of water, today he is monitoring fevers & letting me know when Thing 2 needs more medicine.  They are just the sweetest!

I played around today with a little free motion quilting.  This is a first for me.  I had to take my feed dogs out...they don't drop & it took a couple of tries to get my "little Bigfoot" attached.  I'm not going to show you any pictures...OCD...and all that.  But I am hoping to spend a little bit of time each day taking my machine apart, putting other parts on & practicing my FMQ.

After two really sorry looking pieces, I took everything apart and worked on my UFO wall hanging for my sister-in-law.  Now I'm off to see if I can find the rest of the fabric to finish the borders and cross it off my list.

This one was scrapped a couple of years ago because I didn't like the floral print.  It is too light and fades into the ivory background.  I didn't have the money to purchase new fabrics and I was tired of looking at it so I didn't rip it apart.
Since this was one of my first quilt attempts, my seams are no where near consistent and I pressed every which way.  I opted to finish this, by flipping and clipping seams.  It's not pretty, but the center is done.

Alrighty then!  I'm off to budget...(another new project for me!  I'll let you know how it goes.)

Let me know if you have any budgeting secrets.  Right now, the biggest thing for me is to KEEP IT SIMPLE!

Spice Finish

Well...sort of.
I did get both socks finished last night but I forgot to pack my yarn needles. So that leaves 1 sock still on the needles but it will only take about a minute to stitch the toe closed and weave in the ends.
I'm not crazy about the sock yarn I used but before I give up on that brand completely I am going to do one more pair. I cast on "Pink Sugar" last night. I am using size 3 dpns this time. I gauged and I'm pretty sure that this pair will fit me.
We will be packing up to head home shortly but I'm going to get a few rounds done.

These will be my 3rd pair. I am on a limited budget and have purchased my sock yarns at Joann Fabrics and AC Moore. I am saving the yarn that I purchased at Knitting Addiction, the lys in the Outer Banks, until I am more comfortable with the sock knitting process.
So, my question is...What is your favorite yarn for knitting socks?
(My birthday is in February & I just might have to treat myself to something nice.)

Ready to knit...Enjoy your day!

First List of 2013

I have been trying to learn to do most of my computer stuff on my iPhone.
It hasn't been easy.
I don't always have the time to research and apply new found knowledge...and sometimes it is best to just keep it simple.
I have Blogger on my phone, and I am slowly figuring out the little quirks to posting.  I still can't post pics where I want them in the blog, but I know there has to be a way to do it and I'm going to figure it out.
Just not right away.

So, here I am.  I have my internet up and running (for now). And, I'm going to get my list of UFOs and WIPs on here so that I can keep track of what I accomplish in this new year.  Mostly these are my crafting, knitting, quilting & other sewing projects.  But, I want to do some family research & work on getting my photos organized if not scrapbooked.

I've already taken time to list the projects that I have laying around my room.  I've even taken those projects and sort of arranged the list by category & the easiest finishes.  Great start, right?!

spinning (purchased roving)

I'm sure there are more projects hiding in a variety of places...I didn't dig too deep into the closet.

I have already seen lots of lists from the other bloggers that I follow.  I've also seen a bunch of mosaics (I going to learn how to do that this year too!)  Leave me a message if you want me to check out your 2013 to-do list & I will try and be a cheerleader for you!

Get busy & Have fun!
