WIP Wednesday 4/18/2012

I will be linking up with Freshly Pieced for today's WIP Wednesday. 

I'm trying desperately to get back on track with my blogging. 

Today I will be cutting all of my Sow A Long blocks...I am Sow far behind right now...but we are going to fix that today!

I did manage to FINISH the Fun & Done!

Morgan's Sampler (No Progress)

Kristi's T shirt Quilt (Progress!)  I have all of the shirts stabilized and cut into oddly sized squares.  Now to start shopping for fabric to put it all together. 

Kerrington's Quilt (Progress!)  The 4square blocks are pieced and trimmed.  The alternating 5" squares are cut.  And the first 5 rows are stitched. 

Craftsy BOM (minimal progress) I have the paper hexies cut out and about half of them basted.  They are in a small travel box that goes everywhere with me.  I also need a trip to the quilt shop for more background fabric.  *Happy! Happy!*  Love shopping for my Kansas Troubles stash!

Cinnamon & Nutmeg (No Progress)

Bags (3) (No Progress) Still trying to get the final finishing stitches in.

Table Runner-a hand quilting project (No Progress)  But I have been thinking about it a lot!
( I was going to put up a picture, but it appears that my computer has the protective pseudo-card stuck.  The last time this happened it took me a while to get it un-stuck.  Hopefully I can get it removed by tomorrow...)

Guild Placemats (Not started)

Connecting Threads Perfect Points Class (did the first lesson...but then nothing)

FPPFTT (Progress!)  Finished the first lesson.  Printed the templates for the second lesson.

Scrappy Plates (No Progress) I do have all of my supplies, though.


I've got to get busy if I'm going to make any kind of progress on those Sow A Long blocks!

Bits & Pieces

It's been busy...

Soccer season takes over my life twice a year.  

I have been working on a couple of projects, and neglecting several more.

Perhaps today, I will get my pieces cut for Barrister's Sow A Long.  She keeps posting wonderful bonus blocks...which I LOVE, really I do; but I am so far behind at this point that I don't think I will ever get caught up.  Maybe I will just focus on the main blocks and come back later to get the bonus ones.

So, here are a few pictures of what I've been working on...

Kerrington's Quilt

While working on Kerrington's Quilt, I found out that a steamed stink bug (remember those critters?) smells a lot like boiled cabbage.  Not a favorite of mine.  I removed another 3 dozen bugs the other night.  Not sure what I'm going to do with this one:

Kristi's T shirt Quilt

I will be taking my hexies for the Craftsy BOM to the soccer game tonight.  I'm also hoping to get to Classic Quilt Shop before the game...problem is I'll be with Darren and Thing 1 & 2...not always the wisest choice.  I did hear that the little shop downtown decided not to close.  So maybe I will just pop over there on my way to the library.  I need to find the fabric for Kristi's T shirt Quilt.

A Look Into Our Busy Week

Three of the kids stayed with Gram and Pap when we went over for Easter Dinner.  They had a great time...they always do.  Gram has so many neat things in her house.  

This is what Thing 1 found and has worn everyday since he dug it out of her costume closet.

We picked them up on Wednesday because there was another field trip scheduled for Thursday.  This time, we went to the Frank & Jane Gabor Folklife Center on the campus of Fairmont State University.  

After the tour, we went back to the learning center to celebrate the 10th birthday of Learning Options, Inc.

Yesterday, we celebrated Thing 1 & Thing 2's 9th birthday!  I can hardly believe that we have come this far with them.  They are amazing!

I am finally getting some time to sew today.  I will be working on Kerrington's Quilt and the Baby Quilt.  Hopefully I will have some major progress to show tonight or tomorrow.

Friday the 13th

How was your Friday the 13th?

We had a very lucky one indeed.

It was about mid afternoon when we got a phone call from our oldest (she's 18) that she had been in an accident.  Darren & I scrapped our shopping trip to head over to get her.  The more we talked to her on the phone, the more frightened I was.  (She really kept her cool, all things considered.)  When we arrived to pick her up, the cars had already been towed, so we weren't able to see the amount of damage right away.  (They had to pry the cars apart before they could be towed.) She was very lucky that she wasn't going faster...and that she hadn't pulled out a fraction of a second sooner.  If she had done either, our lives might just be a whole lot different today. 

We found out later in the day that my cousin who is 17 had a wreck in another part of town at about the same time.  Everyone was fine in that one as well.

So, I think in the future, I won't look at Friday the 13th as an unlucky day, but a VERY LUCKY day...that 4 people were able to walk away from 2 separate accidents with minimal injuries!  

Angels were watching over my baby that day!

WIP Wednesday 4.11.12

I finally finished the Fun & Done quilt...now known as the Angry Quilt.  You can see it here.

I am trying to get 2 quilts finished for my niece in CA and her baby sister due in May.  Her big brother's is already done.

This is Kerrington's Quilt:

I have a few more blocks to make and I think I will add solid blocks in between.  I might even go get some more solids.

For the Baby's quilt, I pulled out all of the plaid fabrics and paired them with a "solid".  I will probably do this one in a 9 patch.  

(Both quilts are from the same kit.)

Oh! and this is my biggest WIP...well, not mine exactly.  I'm just supervising.

We are finally tearing down the trailer that is on the front corner of our property.  It is far enough away from the house that you can't see it, but it was getting to be way too dangerous and WAY too much of a temptation for Thing 1 & Thing 2.  We caught them playing near it earlier this Spring and decided it wasn't worth the risk.  The roll off dumpster just arrived so things should move along rather quickly now.

It's still early (for me).  
I have lots to do today, but maybe later this afternoon I will find some time to work on Kerrington's quilt. 
Last night I re-sewed the 4 patches together and trimmed them to 5".
I think I will do 5" pink squares to create another 4 patch, then add either a yellow or green sashing strip with the black squares as cornerstones.  
I'll have pics as soon as I can get it laid out.


But, the priority today is my homeschool portfolio review.  
Lots of books to pull, pictures to organize and projects to pack up.

The Angry Quilt

Most quilts are given a name when they are first begun.
Typically mine are named after the pattern and/or the fabric line I am using.
Sometimes they are named for the person who is going to receive it when it is finally finished.

This quilt...

...has had many names.  It began as a "Fun & Done" class from my LQS in November 2011.

January 2012

Then, I decided that it didn't need to be in my room, but could be split in half and given to the twins.
2 Fun & Done quilts

February 2012

Darren informed me that he really likes it and yes, it does belong in our room.
It needs to be a "Finally Done!" quilt.
There was still a lot to do: joining rows and top-stitching blocks & rows.

Later in February...

At this point, it has been called many things...none of them "fun" and none of them "done".  But, we'll not go on about that list.

Today, it is FINALLY FINISHED.  It was fun in the beginning...and fun in the end. (Well, putting on the final stitches made me happy...even if it wasn't fun.)

Now Darren says: "We'll call this one the Angry Quilt."

Whatever we call it (I'm sure they will be much nicer names now), it is finally done.

I'll be taking it to Guild on Friday for Show & Tell. 
I won't let anyone look too closely because in all of my frustration, I took a lot of short cuts. 
I should have used the walking foot, but didn't. 
I should have lined the blocks up more carefully, but didn't. 
I should have lined my seams up more carefully, but didn't. 

Did I say,  "IT'S DONE!!"?
