BOMs Away 3/12/2012

It has been an extremely busy week on the Compound.

I think this is the first week that I have been disappointed with the amount of quilting that got done.

But, there was plenty of other stuff going on.

I did manage to get some new fabric this week.  

I bought these for the Kindle Sleeve tutorial that I am working on. (And yes, I am still working on it!)  Hopefully you will see it later in the week.  But in the meantime, here are 2 of my practice sleeves:

Too big.  Then I butchered it & made it too small.

*sigh*

Good fit.   Getting closer!

John found this wonderful fish fabric.  I might have to make a pillow case.  Not sure what else to do with it.  But, it was fun & bright & he was happy...and that's all that matters, right?

 Have a wonderful day!  After I get all of the bills paid and the kitchen in order, I will be at my machine trying to get caught up on all that I missed this past week.

Well, aren't we all?!  I mean, I'm the one doing all the work.  The camera just clicks, whirrs and waits.

I have too many things to do.  I'm trying to get this prototype finished for a friend that I will see later this evening...but NO!  

Not now!  

The poor camera battery is exhausted.  

It's almost time for me to stop sewing & start getting dressed for our Fire Department's Elimination Dinner.

  

All of my besties are coming out tonight. 

Including the Birthday Girl. 

And here I am with an exhausted camera, a half finished tutorial  and no Kindle Sleeve.

It's been a long week...

...but yesterday I managed to sneak over to my favorite Quilt Shop...

I got what I needed to finish stabilizing the blocks for Kristi's T shirt quilt, I bought a bit of Insul-Brite (I haven't tried using this yet.) and I found these lovely fabrics to add to my stash:

And Thing 2 found these really cool fish.  Not sure what we will do with this yet.

We have been crazy busy around here this week.  On Wednesday, I took Thing 1 & Thing 2 to the State Museum for a school field trip.  We had an amazing day!  Here are a few of the photos that Thing 2 took.  He really enjoys taking pictures (and I think he does a pretty good job)!

WIPs 3/7/2012

Only 2 projects made progress this week. 

Well, I did work on my BOMs, but I am going to update that progress on Mondays now.  You can check this weeks progress here.

I am linking up with Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday.

1. Fun & Done: I now have all of the rows assembled.  They now need to be top stitched before they can be joined together.  This is a project that I have committed to working on every weekend until I get it finished.  Hopefully it will be done by the end of this month.

2.  My 2nd Satchel for 2 is finished.  It matches that lovely Kindle sleeve that I posted last week.  I love it!  (And, I am working on a tutorial for the sleeve!)

Well, I am off with the twins today for a field trip to the state museum.  Wish me luck!

BOMs Away 3/5/2012

I'm going to try and fine tune my blogging content.  I think I am becoming a bit redundant with my progress reports.  So, for today, I will stay on task with my update.  I am linking up with "What a Hoot!" for BOMs Away.


Block of the Month projects:

Morgan's Sampler:

These are the first 4 blocks. The next 3 are cut and have the HSTs assembled.  I hope to have all 3 finished this week.  The quilt should finish with 12 blocks.  Then I have to start shopping for sashing, cornerstones, borders and backing fabrics.

Craftsy Block of the Month:

March is "Foundation Piecing".  These are part of the string block.  There are 2 techniques that we are doing.  The second block is called Broken Spiderweb.  I'm not in a rush to get these done.  February was a short month, but it seemed to take forever to get the March lesson when I had the Feb blocks done on the first day.

Barrister's Sow-A-Long:

These are all of my completed blocks.  I did duplicates of the first 2 and will double up on the others sometime this week.  Randy will be posting 3 more blocks on Wednesday (I hope!).


This one is not a BOM, but it is an ongoing project that I am trying to get finished.

Fun & Done:

I started this project before Thanksgiving.  It should have been a large throw size and with winter setting in, I decided to make it large enough to fit my bed.  It is taking forever! 
I chose to do it in black and blue Civil War reproduction prints.  I am having a hard time working with such dark colors in this cold, dreary weather.  Even though our winter has been very mild with very little snow, everything is still bare and dead looking.

So, I decided last week that I would spend at least one day over the weekend working on this quilt.  On Sunday, I pulled out the bags of blocks and the assembled & partially assembled rows. 

 I assembled all of the rows,

 and pre-pressed the seams open.

I was able to join 2 rows together and even managed to top stitch them before the kids returned home.

Next weekend will be spent top stitching each of the blocks on the final 4 rows.

What a Week!

It's Sunday.  

Time to start a new week.

What a crazy week this has been.

My poor hubby was working during the first big storm.  He had a crazy night at work and had to come home to a "previously" flooded basement.  The kids and I had most of the furniture moved out and the water sopped up, but we still needed to move some of the larger furniture pieces and clean.

When I got home from the store with the cleaning supplies, I showed him a bag of DampRid that I found on clearance.  This is what he did with it:

 He fell asleep.  Not what it's intended for.  He insists that he was ignoring me...but he obviously had worked way too hard!

Last night at our Feb/Mar birthday party with friends, he was treated to a wonderful massage by Maggie.  She has amazing hands!  And doesn't he look happy? 

While the storms were raging, I was hiding in my happy place quilting.  Or planning blocks.  Or making bags.
